After graduation come crucial decisions… What major to
choose, what university to go to, where to live and so on. Having graduated
from an American school in Morocco, I had to decide in which continent I wanted
to further my studies. I did not know what my next step was. I completed my
high school years with high honors and wished to go to a university that would
allow me to stretch my academic aptitudes.
Next came the quest for universities. Graduating at the age
of seventeen I hoped to find a university close to home but far enough that it
would also allow me to be independent. That’s when I found a university in
Madrid, Spain. I then took one week off of school to go and explore that
dazzling city. I did not know what to
expect from the city or the school. I was so amazed at the fine details in the
city’s buildings and their intricate designs that I forgot that my main purpose
in visiting Madrid was to explore the university.
After three or four days of sightseeing I decided it was
time for me to go and visit the college. You cannot imagine my disappointment
when I found out that the whole college consisted only of one building. PLUS,
the total number of students enrolled in that program was no more than four
hundred students!! I was lost. I fell in love with the city yet the university
fell short of my expectations. I didn’t know what the next step was. I decided
to enjoy the days I had left in Madrid and think about college at another time.
I returned to Morocco feeling more lost than ever. I
graduated a month later and came to Charlotte for vacation. I decided to visit
UNCC out of curiosity and that’s when I knew that it was the place for me. Nevertheless,
I still continue to study the Spanish language in hopes of revisiting Madrid in
the future.
